olovesm.jpgMerle O’Brien describes herself as an “indie eco-designer of eco-bags”. She was in the downward dog pose at her yoga class when the idea came to her: an eco-bag, made from remnants that other companies just throw away. OlovesM was born. A stroke of good fortune came for Merle and her eco-bags when a chance meeting in a Utah bathroom led to the bags being chosen as the official SWAG bag for a benefit honouring Aretha Franklin. And since then they’ve gone to the Sundance Film Festival too. In fact, by the impressive list of celebrity OlovesM bag-toters listed on their website, it seems that everyone who’s anyone in Hollywood is in possesion of one.

But that’s enough of the “rags to riches” (literally) story, here’s what you need to know about OlovesM:

  • The bags are made of salvaged materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.
  • There are loads of great designs, take a look for yourself.
  • Prices start at just $15.00, and you can buy them online at OlovesM.

GreenStepsGreenSteps is looking for an average family to create a new television programme
The family will discover how easy it is to go green. Following the success of the BBC television series ‘It’s not easy being green’, at GreenSteps, they don’t believe it’s all that difficult. They’ve teamed up with a television production company and are currently searching for the perfect ‘average’ family to demonstrate how easy it is to go green.

The search is for a family with 2 or 3 children, living in a medium sized house in a suburban area. If you are that family, or you think you know one that fits the bill, GreenSteps wants to hear from you! Please contact GreenSteps by email on support@greensteps.co.uk, stating the names and ages of your family members, the size of the family home and where you live. GreenSteps will respond to each application received to let you know if you have been successful in progressing to the next round. Good luck!

GreenMaven.com was designed late last year by a group of Green MBA graduates with Open Source software by the leading sustainable website development firm, Earthsite.net, developers of Urth.tv and GreenFestivals.org. The site has reached a total of 5,000 websites since its launch, and has also been recognised in TIME.com’s Top Ten List of Best New Websites of 2006.

“People want to go green, but they often don’t know where to start or even what questions to ask,” says Joey Shepp, founder of Green Maven. “Green Maven makes searching for all things green as easy as using Google. If you search for socks, you get organic socks. If you search for cars, you get hybrid cars. Our mission is to make it easy for mainstream to go green.”

“Going green has never been easier than with Green Maven,” reports Lee Ettleman, TIME.COM. “Editors at the site hand-pick web pages and news items related to the environmental movement—about everything from eco-friendly cities to organic socks—that can then be searched using the Google tool on the homepage or browsed through using a directory.”

Visitors can search on GreenMaven.com, or they can take the green web with them by installing an easy browser plug-in. Businesses who want their sites included in the green search engine can submit their URLs to Green Maven’s team of editors for approval.
