If you’re a fan of Ecostreet’s title graphics, make sure to head down to the Viewfinder Gallery in Greenwich, London, between 30th May and 6th July, for Anna Hillman’s solo photography exhibition, ‘Amazingness’.
Amazingness is a word Anna coined to describe “nature as it occurs everyday all around, easy to miss but everywhere to be found… colors, shapes, patterns, textures, movements…the little details of life existing, growing, decaying, being, enjoying”. This definition is captured photographically in the form of green shoots springing through concrete cracks, an orange autumn leaf caught in the structure of a mesh fence, the constantly changing watermark patterns along river banks, amongst others.
An environmentalist at heart, Anna’s project tackles sustainability at its root: the pictures are a call to action, inspiring us to interact with our urban environment and to give it the appreciation and value it deserves. The location of each piece of amazingness is displayed on each image, pointing out that everyone can find amazingness for themselves. She is reminding us that, in order to find beauty and art, we need do nothing more than stop and look.
The pictures are the starting point of Anna’s much bigger project to help us find amazingness for ourselves. She runs workshops to get children and adults in the habit of exploring their environments, and is running two workshops for children during the course of the exhibition.
