When Jeremy Walters’ interview with leading weather scientist Sir John Houghton created some interest at Digg.com, I was surprised to read the comments left by, and the sheer quantity of, Diggers who are convinced that as far as global warming goes there really is nothing to worry about.
Now, as far as I can tell, many leading scientists are convinced that climate change is happening, and that in turn has convinced me. To use the words of one digger: “I think I’ll believe the peer-reviewed climate scientists. I think I’ll believe Nasa, The Pentagon, The Pope, Tony Blair (in fact every world leader except… the corrupt American ones)”. But he goes against the grain of what many Diggers feel:
A lot of the data [disproving global warming] isn’t published because no one is willing to publish something that goes against these beliefs that have become so mainstream…. In addition a lot of scientists get funding by the government to back global warming, so why would they publish something that would cause them to lose money? The jobs of thousands of people are wrapped up in the notion of global warming, and none of them want to sacrifice that. I suggest that all of you watch the documentary entitled “The Great Global Warming Swindle,” it will teach you a lot.
You don’t need to dig too deep to come up with plenty of material that “debunks, rebutts, and discredits” The Great Global Warming Swindle.
Global warming is a MYTH PEOPLE! Not to mention, the total amount of CO2 in the air created or generated artificially (by machines, cars, things like that) is less than 1% of the total CO2 in the ENTIRE ATMOSPHERE! If you compare the graphs of CO2 in the air with the graphs of temperature, you will see that CO2 increases as the temperature increases, and vice versa. There is about a big lag between temperature increase and CO2 increases, but you can tell that CO2 is actually following the temperature…not the other way around.
Okay, if you say so.
True scientists would also be asking what, if any, are the positive effects of global warming? Are you trying to tell me that its all bad?
I’m not seeing an up-side to drought and famine and the sea level rising dramatically.

Bless him, he hadn’t brought all his research to the interview with him, so he’s definitely not to be believed.
This final comment sums it up quite nicely:
If global warming is happening, how come it’s been so much cooler in Southern California this year.
Why worry, we’re okay now aren’t we? Never mind down the line, it’s too complicated and tedious to change our wasteful ways.

There seem to have been quite a few neocon trolls (court jesters, Dr. Hansen calls them) roaming Digg and Reddit in the last week or so. I think they’re not indicative of the community at large.
not true at all, I think it’s a very pertinent issue that is a topic that is relegated in favour for issues concerning politics and terrorism. Yes there are a lot of Digg users that are in denial about it, but there are also some very sensible ones that are more learned then myself on the issue.
There may be room for argument about the effect that man is having on global warming. There may even be room for argument about whether we are experiencing global warming as anything other than a blip in the graph.
What is not in doubt is that we are raping this planet with pollution. Don’t anyone let arguments about global warming be a red herring to deflect from the fact that we should clean up the mess we are making.
The fact remains, and is still denied by “Global Warming Experts” that all previous warming events have resulted in an explosion of life, world peace, social and economic advancement, and decreased drought conditions. The first know global warming period brought about the Cambrian explosion. Later warming periods brought each new age. The periods of global cooling brought death and destruction. It’s too bad these so called scientists can’t put together a computer model based on historical fact rather than pure political bias.

Just like the mainstream media, you’ve fallen into the typical “two sides to every story” trap which often keeps the real story from being told.
Basically, you’re trying to pigeonhole everyone who is skeptical about climate change and make them out to be crazy conspiracy theorists.
There is a third option… a belief that is held by most climate change skeptics. They don’t think climate change is a hoax, however they feel that it is exaggerated and sensationalized.
Some worst-case scenarios predict sea levels rising nearly a meter in the next hundred years, but the consensus seems to be around 20 to 50 cm. This is clearly a problem, but I take issue with zealots who proclaim global warming to be the single greatest threat to humanity. We still have millions of people around the world dying of curable diseases and malnutrition TODAY… we should be spending our time and money on that.

Wow VBDon, what the hell have you been smoking? Well I guess just keep on smoking dude cause if you’re right we can just pollute ourselves and warm the earth to achieve world peace.
I agree with ChaosFreak that there is a group that believes that climate change is real, but terribly exaggerated and sensationalized. And he’s absolutely right anyone who disagrees with the global warming doomsday scenario is a conspiracy theorist.
I fall into this category, and I have learned to keep my mouth shut when it comes to global warming, because as soon as I suggest that the global warming isn’t as big a deal as it’s made out to be, I become a pariah… My opinions instantly don’t matter because I didn’t drink Al Gore’s Kool-Aid.
I do believe that we need to clean up and change our ways, but I don’t think we need something like the global warming scare to do it. I mean, the evidence is right there in the yellow-smog bowl encapsulated cities and the record numbers of breathing disorders.
The worst thing about the whole debate is that there’s no room for debate. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve mentioned a report denying global warming comes out, and everyone jumps on me, saying that it’s sponsored by big oil. I just want people to rationally, and calmly debate the issue, rather than getting emotional about it.
Global Warming is a problem. The last glacier in Germany is melting!! how are they going to have rivers? Of course it s going to melt but if it keeps going then there wont be any rivers. I think alot of you just dont care and want someone else to stop global Warming

I am a digger, although not a part of this comment thread you speak of. Diggers are generally a population ahead of the curve and probably feel this way because they are not easily fool and influenced by agenda’s. I just did a presentation on the global warming hoax and thers lots of points to go off. do some research
