What does fairtrade mean?
legalize growing of Hemp - then we will talk fairtrade - Some land will simply not grow cotton, and the farmers suffer, and the land falls from productive use, and the cotton growers rejoice! NOT FAIR! Let the Canadian Prairies grow Hemp, let us make paper, fiber, food and bio-diesel from it, then let us sell it on a truly free North American market, without tariffs. Let us have a good life too!

Dear Linda,

I found the article very interesting.

However, just because things are produced under fair trade conditions we feel it is now compulsory to put a label on it! It is a shame we cannot put a label on those products made in sweatshops!

I am not overly convinced by the fair trade logo though. Having looked around on various sites and directories (Living Ethically, Guide me Green, Green Guide), many companies object to paying the fee to join such organisations like Ethical Junction and Fairtrade Association, and I do not blame them.

Personally, if one endeavours to purchase from smaller and more indidual shops, such as Little Green Boutique, BoBelle, The Natural Store etc, instead of high street conglomorates, then we will make fair trade more successful.
