manchestercityfootballclub.jpgThe City of Manchester stadium is about to become the very first in the world with its own green power supply. Permission has been granted for Manchester City Football Club to erect a 120m high wind turbine, to power both the Sportcity stadium and surrounding homes. The turbine, which has been designed by celebrated architect Sir Norman Foster, will be provided by Ecotricity and is expected to take around two weeks to erect. It should be be in place by the end of 2007.

  • That’s nothing ;-)

There’s a new football stadium opening in Dartford that claims to be ‘one of the most green football stadiums on the planet’.

I’m not all that clear on why it’s so green, but they do have a glass roof and some kind of new fangled flood lights, so they could well be right.

  • You are right, Duncan, the details are vague. I visited their website and it mentions: “A living grass roof, [...] innovative water collection system and specialised high-tech floodlights help make the facility one of the most green football stadiums on the planet”

That all sounds good but then I saw their live webcam… it was past midnight and the floodlights were on :-( http://www.dartford.gov.uk/webcam/princespark.htm

  • I wonder if they are renewably powered spotlights?
