RWE npower has announced that they have been given the go ahead for their biggest wind farm so far in Britain. They’re planning the £190 million 90 megawatt project, using 25 Siemens turbines at Rhyl Flats, off the North Wales coast. The project is expected to begin supplying green electricity in mid-2009, and combined with the nearby North Hoyle wind farm will supply green energy for 100,000 homes. The government has backed this project with a £10 million capital grant. RWE npower currently only supplies 5% of its electricity from renewable sources, with the majority of the electricity provided by them coming from coal fired power stations. RWE npower supplies green electricity to Marks & Spencer, Wembley stadium and Lord’s cricket ground. via Times Online
