You can expect the amount of “unaddressed” junk mail coming through your letter-box to increase dramatically with an agreement expected this week to scrap the Royal Mail’s current three-items-a-week limit. These are the mailings addressed to “the occupier” that the postman puts through your door when he is delivering your “addressed” mail.

Last year, the Royal Mail delivered 3.3 billion items of “unaddressed” mail and 78,000 tons of junk mail ended up in landfill.

You can opt-out of receiving “unaddressed” junk mail by writing to : Door to door opt outs, Royal Mail, Kingsmead House, Oxpens Road, Oxford, OX1 1RX.

To stop receiving “addressed” junk mail, register with the Mailing Preference Service.
