GreenMaven.com was designed late last year by a group of Green MBA graduates with Open Source software by the leading sustainable website development firm, Earthsite.net, developers of Urth.tv and GreenFestivals.org. The site has reached a total of 5,000 websites since its launch, and has also been recognised in TIME.com’s Top Ten List of Best New Websites of 2006.
“People want to go green, but they often don’t know where to start or even what questions to ask,” says Joey Shepp, founder of Green Maven. “Green Maven makes searching for all things green as easy as using Google. If you search for socks, you get organic socks. If you search for cars, you get hybrid cars. Our mission is to make it easy for mainstream to go green.”
“Going green has never been easier than with Green Maven,” reports Lee Ettleman, TIME.COM. “Editors at the site hand-pick web pages and news items related to the environmental movement—about everything from eco-friendly cities to organic socks—that can then be searched using the Google tool on the homepage or browsed through using a directory.”
Visitors can search on GreenMaven.com, or they can take the green web with them by installing an easy browser plug-in. Businesses who want their sites included in the green search engine can submit their URLs to Green Maven’s team of editors for approval.
Thanks to Stacie at GreenMaven.com for letting us know all about them.

I think green search engines are an excellent way to help make living a “green” lifestyle easier.
Another green search engine, and i think the best for content, a carbon calculator and heaps of helpful facts to help you recuce your carbon footprint is http://www.click4carbon.com. They donate profits from advertising revenue to fund global forestation projects.
GoFinditNow http://www.gofinditnow.com is another green search engine based on Google that saves energy. One feature that saves energy is the site’s black background. On an normal CRT monitor a black background saves up to fifteen watts. Web site hosting energy is offset by renewable energy credits. Try http://www.gofinditnow.com and make a difference when you search the web.
Growing up my mother used to say about lights that were left on “there’s a little lump of coal burning somewhere for that light”. Now when you search you can rest assured that there is a wind turbine turning somewhere in the southwest helping power the page you are surfing.
