The hidden time bomb in all of this is that as peoplefight to downsize borrowings the resultant effect of all of this then emerges as cashflow tightens up with no available cash being spent and more hoarded...and so on. The end result if Central Bankers don't get it right is the complete collapse of the financial cycle.

Sadly, most people aren't that committed so it's only the die-hards who'll make the great sacrifices to continue their planet-saving exploits through the credit crunch.
'Ordinary' people will soon lapse once the cost of taking action with their supermarket trolley starts hitting their wallets too hard. Especially now the leaves are turning brown letting us all know that Christmas is in the not too distant future.
As for people with money? Well, they're obviously just looking for an excuse, aren't they? If environmental benefits, plus supporting Fair Trade or local, organic producers means so little now, then it obviously meant so little all the time and was nothing more than a ruse for appearances sake, or merely to keep up with the Joneses.
As you say, it's all about priorities. Some people really can't see long term benefits for the 'luxury' item they need right this moment.

I agree, even though the credit crunch is not affecting my pocket directly, unless I'm really clueless, my priority is always to live more gently on the Earth and reduce my wasteful impact on it.
