Government Advisors Say No To Nuclear

The Sustainable Development Commission, a UK government advisory, have reported that the benefits of nuclear power are outweighed by its serious disadvantages. This comes as good news to those who have been campaigning against a new nuclear power programme in the UK.

The five main disadvantages that the report identifies are the long-term waste problem that remains unsolved, the high costs and implications for the tax payer, the inflexibility of being locked into a centrilised energy distribution system for the next 50 years, the message to consumers that energy efficiency is not as important as a technological quick-fix, and finally the risk of international security.
