Worms eat posh nosh

Cape Town’s oldest and most famous hotel, The Mount Nelson, is tackling climate change by feeding its restaurant leftovers to thousands of worms in South Africa’s biggest worm farm yet. The hotel has reduced its food waste by 70% and its gardens are enjoying the “worm tea” treats and vermi-compost that the new hotel employees produce while quietly saving the earth.

South Africa is looking at alternative ways to deal with landfill that is creating greenhouse gases. This project is predicted to just be the start of a trend within the hotel industry.
